Florida Marriage License Fee & Waiting Period

License fee
$86 ($61 if a FL-approved premarital course is completed)
Fee set by
County
Waiting period
3 days for FL RESIDENTS (waived by premarital course); none for non-residents
Validity
60 days

In Florida, the marriage license fee is approximately $86, though the exact amount is set by individual county clerks and varies by county. Couples who complete a Florida-approved premarital course may reduce the fee to $61. The specific fee charged by the issuing county clerk's office should be confirmed directly with that office before applying.

Florida imposes a three-day waiting period before a marriage license can be used, but this applies only to residents of the state. Non-residents of Florida face no waiting period. The three-day waiting period is waived for Florida residents who complete a registered premarital course, which also qualifies them for the reduced $61 fee. Once issued, a marriage license remains valid for 60 days.

The fee is representative. Marriage-license fees here are county-set and vary; confirm the exact, current amount on the issuing county clerk's own fee schedule. Informational only — not legal advice.

Where the fee is actually set

In most states the marriage-license fee is set by the county, not the legislature, so a single statewide number can be wrong for you. The license document itself is issued by the county clerk — that office’s own fee schedule is the authoritative source for the current amount and any waiting period.
